Characterization of Pareto dominance
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this note– inspired by and using a number of properties from Barbara and Jackson [2] – is to characterize the Pareto dominance relation. The set-up and interpretation is completely analogous to [2]. In particular, situations are considered where different actions are to be compared on the basis of their consequences, which are described by vectors of real numbers. Ranking actions then becomes equivalent with ranking vectors and a decision criterion can be seen as a binary relation on the set of real vectors (see [2, p. 35]). If the coordinates of a vector x ∈ R measure positive attributes, like a firm’s profit, utility of a decision maker, or the quantity of a certain good to a nonsatiable consumer, it Pareto dominates a vector y ∈ R if xi yi for all coordinates i, with strict inequality for at least one coordinate. Conversely, if coordinates measure negative attributes (loss, disutility, quantities of ‘bads’, etc.), x Pareto dominates y if xi yi for all coordinates i, with strict inequality for at least one coordinate. If an alternative x is not Pareto dominated in a given set of alternatives, it is Pareto optimal.

The Pareto principle and resource egalitarianism
This paper introduces and studies the leximin Paretian ordering, which refines the consensual leximin ordering by adding the Pareto principle to the concept of lexicographic egalitarianism. We also provide an alternative characterization of the consensual Rawlsian ordering. We introduce several new axioms, including the Permutation Pareto Principle and Internal Dominance, and study their logica...
متن کاملSorted-Pareto Dominance: an extension to the Pareto Dominance relation and its application in Soft Constraints
The Pareto dominance relation, widely used in a number of decision making areas, can suffer from a lack of discriminatory power, which may result in a large number of undominated or optimal solutions. By strengthening this relation, we can narrow down this optimal set further, which is desirable e.g., for presenting a smaller number of more interesting solutions to a decision maker. This paper ...
متن کاملRecurrence Relations for Quotient Moment of Generalized Pareto Distribution Based on Generalized Order Statistics and Characterization
Generalized Pareto distribution play an important role in reliability, extreme value theory, and other branches of applied probability and statistics. This family of distributions includes exponential distribution, Pareto distribution, and Power distribution. In this paper, we established exact expressions and recurrence relations satisfied by the quotient moments of generalized order statistic...
متن کاملSome Characterization Results on Generalized Pareto Distribution Based on Progressive Type-II Right Censoring
The progressive censoring scheme is a method of data collecting in reliability and life testing which has been of intensified interest in recent years. In the present paper, we prove some characterization results on generalized Pareto distribution based upon the independency and expected values of some functions of progressive type-II right censored order statistics.
متن کاملImproving the efficiency of ϵ-dominance based grids
In this paper, we deal with the problem of handling solutions in an external archive with the use of a relaxed form of Pareto dominance called ǫ-dominance and a variation of it called paǫ-dominance. These two relaxed forms of Pareto dominance have been used as archiving strategies in some multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). The main objective of this work is to improve the ǫ-domina...
